The causes of foot odour and smelly feet
We've all cringed with shame and embarrassment when we walk into the bedroom and get that all too familar stink of cheesy, smelly feet.
It's not a great first impression if you have a guest and want them to think the best of you.
Stinky feet
But what makes our feet stink so badly?
Well, wearing socks and shoes can prevent the sweat on your feet from drying up and this makes an ideal breeding ground for bacteria and it is this that causes the unpleasant smell of foot odour.
Heat and sweat
Your feet sweat in to your shoes all day and bacteria continue to breed once you have taken them off and popped them in the wardrobe.
So when you put on your shoes the next morning you are immersing your feet in decomposing bacteria.
Footwear made of manmade, rather than natural substances, can significantly exacerbate this problem, increasing the amount of sweat and therefore the amount of bacteria.
Infections on your feet
It's decomposing bacteria that cause the odour and the sweat from your feet which help it to grow.
Fungal infections, including Athlete's Foot, and a condition caused by the same bacteria which lead to acne can also lead to very strong foot odour.
